My check engine light is NOT on (at least not yet). Hopefully that's a good sign. In fact, during my 4 years of ownership it's never been on. Maybe the LED light is dead =)

I spoke today with the shop who performed the service and they're recommending that I come in for a complimentary Seafoam treatment. The shop owner, who I spoke with on the phone for about 30 minutes, thinks coolant may have been leaking into the engine through the old intake gasket and the build-up from said coolant is keeping the valves from closing completely on each cycle. He said if the Seafoam doesn't work, he'd ask his boys to hook it up to the computer for a complimentary check to see what else may be going wrong.

Does that potential explanation make sense? The LR dealer's shop initially concluded something similar, but I'm curious to hear if you guys have ever encountered those sort of issues.

The shop owner also suggested the engine shutter/vibration may be caused by a loose engine mount/bushing. Any thoughts to that notion?

While the total repair cost was high, I'm not faulting the independent shop. They've been really good to me in the past. In fact, twice before they've not charged me anything for routine service and check-ups. I COULD have saved $185 by not taking it to the LR dealer initially, but that was my mistake. Next time, I'll be sure to ASK first then decide on a repair strategy after getting some free advice.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and suggestions. I'll keep the forum posted on what I learn after the Seafoam.

Glad to hear that the shop is going to work with you.
A bad engine mount could cause this but not likely.

The coolant issue is possible, depending on if and how much coolat you were loosing. That was why I asked.

Sounds like they are working with you.

Clean out your IAC valve.

All you need is a ratchet and some miscellaneous sockets and a can of Carb Cleaner. It takes about 10 minutes.

I changed my plugs and wires this past week without removing the manifold. It's a bitch.

Good news so far. The shop executed the complimentary Seafoam treatment and the engine is definitely running smoother. The shop owner asked that I come back after 150 miles to execute a second Seafoam treatment after some of the Seafoam-treated gas has worked it's way through the injectors. I'm hopeful that the engine will run even better following the second treatment.

I'll keep everyone posted and thanks again for all the great advice.

I am glad the are treating you right, but you have already paid for this and big time it looks like. Do not be fooled that they are really giving you any complimentary service..

Spike i think the $700 mark you set was still too high, lol. This guy got the shaft. However im not sure if mike thinks so but the computer might need to adjust his idle air control module a little, or his timing might be off just slightly, enough to throw a miss fire to a cylinder.
