Yup, have worked on BMW's in the past and came across a 325 that an elderly lady owned. She, for whatever reason, always took it to the dealer for service. Then for some reason she decided to have me work on the car. Remember, this was a car nearly ten years old! When I pulled the water pump it was pristine! No deposits whatsoever! BMW water pumps are dated so I knew it was original to the car. I've never seen anyone else use the proper coolant for the life of a car so I usually see pitting or deposits when pulling radiator hoses or water pumps. I guess when you've got Prestone for a few bucks everyone figures it's okay since the factory coolant can cost nearly $20/gallon.

I own a MY2000 Series II and used to own a Disco I.

The DII is clearly better put together. This is obvious from the moment you open the first door. The suspension is far from bullit-proof if its SLS. The compressors fail and the air springs start to leak after about five years. I'm not sure how much the Jag is worth, but I would have reservations about buying a Disco that has head problems. They're not like the 1.8 Freelander, that has well established head problems. So, saying it has "already" had the head done would not reassure.

This is my third LR, and I wouldn't swap it (even for a Jag!).

 

Yeah I agree, you should be skeptical of a vehicle that has had head work done before 60,000 miles. Maybe taking it took a proficient mechanic might help in our decision, and to find out its real worth. Good luck!

 

everything I have read says to steer away from the SLABS air suspension. very expensive to replace. anyways you can get certified LR antifreeze and lots of other stuff reasonable from www.expeditionexchange.com. you may want to see if the seller would go ahead and do the 60K service. wouldnt be askin too much might save you a few bucks (over $1000) at the stealership. this is a very important service to these cars so at least be sure someone does it.
