I purchased a 2001 Land Rover II SE7 a few years ago for a decent price...however about every 6 months, I need to fix something on it. It has about 114,000 on it right now. I recently developed a pretty significant power steering leak and looked here to help me out. I guess I jumped to replacing the power steering pump to quickly. This morning I put a new pump and return hose in, filled the reservoir back up thinking it was all fixed, and fluid started pouring everywhere again. I had the wife turn the wheel to see if I could see where it was coming from and it appears to be coming out of here
The picture is from standing next to the driver's door facing the front. The front brass looking fitting is where is it bubbling and pouring out of. I'm assuming this is the steering box...and if so...what is the mechanical skill needed to replace and or fix this? Also is there something simpler as in a seal or line that can be replaced? I appreciate any help and input as these forums have helped me greatly over the past 2 years. I've replaced the air ride system with springs, done brakes/rotors, front drive shaft, belt, pulley, thermostat and new hoses, plugs and all wires thanks to these forums.
I haven't pulled the box on a D2, but if you remove that bolt and pipe clip, you can pull the hard lines straight up. You should see the o-rings that you need to replace attached to the lines.
Ok, I took that bracket off that holds those 2 lines into the steering box...the o-rings look fine, no sign of rot or torn. The line that the power steering fluid is leaking out of runs to the front of the radiator and is extremely corroded and rusted. Should I replace that line or does anyone think that it could still be the steering box? Thanks for the help!
