Ive searched the forum without much luck regarding my problem.. Its a 98D1 with 170000 miles. My problem is when its hot its like i dont have any power steering at all, I replaiced the steering damper thinking it had some thing to do with that no different. Ive flushed the system a couple times still no different. I guess what im asking is if its the pump or gear box problem?

All the steering damper does is prevent the steering wheel from breaking your arm when you hit a big bump or a rock while offroading.

What fluid did you use in the power steering?

 

Well my damper was dented and bent so it had to be replaced. There was ATF in the resavoir so thats what i replaced it with.

 

Ok, good. The DI power steering system uses Dexron III.

Sounds like your pump is on its way out assuming that your serpentine belt and tensioner is good.

 

Yeah new belt nd tensioner less than 3000 miles ago. I was afraid you were gonna say pump was goin out

 

i havent had power steering for over a year... power steering is a crutch

 

But you drive the "Short Bus", aren't you supposed...
