Default Power Steering Noises

Almost out of nowhere I had a lot of groaning while turning this morning, and it was a little stiff and low speeds. I know my PS pump is leaking like mad so I figured it was low. When I got back to check check on it there was plenty of fluid in the reservoir (but I did notices bubbles, not sure if that's normal). I'm assuming the pump itself is starting to go bad.

I know you can get reman pumps, but what about the hoses? It looks like the hose kit itself is about $100. I've had someone mention before that I might could take the hose to Pep Boys or the like and have them custom make a high pressure hose, or is that not possible? What's the most affordable option to replace the hoses?

Bubbles means that the pump is sucking air. On mine, it was the gasket between the two halves of the pump. My rebuilt ebay special has been working fine for over a year.

Don't know about the hoses, I have not replaced those but there are several sources. If it's like other Rover specific stuff, I've not had much luck finding things in stock locally.

Robert,
This is the pump I got last year and works really well if you need one.

Pump sucking air could also be caused by blocked filter in reservoir.

D2 Mx Schedule:
The Power Steering/ ACE fluid reservoir should be replaced at 150,000 miles
(250,000 kilometers)

I was prepared to buy this, but turned out I did not need it. This is the pressure line, but the others are shown in the "bought together" links.

Amazon Amazon

I got the same pump as LR03NJ, no trouble so far.

I just replaced the pump and went for a test drive. No squeals and no immediate leaks. After digging into the job and wiping things down, I don't think I actually needed the hoses. They actually seemed to be in good condition, just covered in gunk. So like Red5 I turned out not to need them. Anyway, so far so good, I'll just keep an eye on the fluid for a bit.

Hour and a half job, considering I'm #notamechanic, I'm quite proud of myself!
