Default Power Steering Pump Leak Fixed

The phrase three times is a charm worked for me when resealing my PSP housing.

It had a leak from the housing just in front of the reservor supply hose. I unbolted the four bolts holding the housing together and split the housing. The thin plastic gasket was in good shape so I thought RTV would seal it up. WRONG. Each time I cleaned all internal components with mineral spirits and made sure no residual PSP fluid was present.

The first RTV I used was premetex Ultra Black. The housing will only take about 4 foot pounds of torque before the PSP shaft has some resistance when turning. Any more and it will drag really good and probably break shortly after. Anyways, this started leaking within seconds of filling with fluid.

The Second RTV I used was premetex Transfer Case RTV. The housing will only take about 4 foot pounds of torque before the PSP shaft has some resistance when turning. Any more and it will drag really good and probably break shortly after. Anyways, this started leaking within seconds of filling with fluid.

THE FIX:

Went to NAPA and bought some fiber gasket material. This material is about .032 thick so you don't have the problem of locking up the housing with to much torque. Took my old plastic gasket and traced it on the new material. Used an exacto knife cut out. installed gasket onto housing using NO RTV and tighted bolts to 12 foot pounds.

Hope this works for you as it saved me 400$$.
