Default Power steering question

98 D1, V8i

I have a bad leak that appears to be the seal where the steering column shaft enters the steering box. Is there a seal around the shaft there that commonly fails?

Can it be replaced by just disconnecting the steering column lower UJ or do I have to remove the box and withdraw the splined shaft from the power steering box?

Any magic sealers that will solve this? lol

thanks
Alan

Try 1/3 bottle of white shepards. I'm fighting a leaky PAS system now. It's a losing battle.

Other than a stop leak, you can replace that seal but it is a 50/50 if it will work.
Make sure that you only use 1/2 bottle of stop leak, any more and you risk plugging the system and burning up your power steering pump.
I used Dexron III with stop leak to cure my PS leak 2 years ago.
You must give the stop leak time to work, just use it as a top off fluid until half of the bottle is gone, then keep topping up with normal ATF for several weeks until the stop leak works its way in.
