I really hope this goes well for you. Getting the electronics happy is going to be the real trick here. There was a time when I was playing with the idea of making my D2 a 100% off-highway vehicle complete with a 4.3l V6, SM465 + 205/203 and custom-length 9" rear + custom heavy- D44 ford-drop front axles. 350s are fine but 4.3s leave you a little more room and TBH it's not hard to get 200 out of a 4.3. If you can't tell by the x-fer case this would be all about crawling. (less wiring, with lots of donor / salvage yard stuff this could be done cheaper than you think..)

Problem? How in the WORLD do you get the LR happy with the signals from the GM engine and trans? A standard-trans ECU would help but still..

Some places this might not be a big deal but more and more if you can't get it inspected, you might as well either not do it or accept the fact that you now have an off-highway-only vehicle. That's a problem by itself since so many places now want you to be street-legal only and insured...

update:

I've been on hold, waiting for a template on the transmission to bellhousing adapter.... It was postmarked wrong and has been stealing my time.... I am suppossed to get by this Wed... at that time I will start working on my own adapter

OH... and also before I was going to use the 4l80e... but now I changed my mind and am going to run a 97 Land Rover Discovery 1 transmission (Hydrolic, non electric) zf 4hp22

LT230 Rover Transfer Case to TH700 auto
This kit allows you too run the bullet proof LT230 to the common turbo 700 which is found on most v6 and 5 ltr V8.
This adaptor allows the transfer to be mounted flat/0 degrees or 15 degrees down.
$255.00

Can you post up contact information for whoever was doing this? Or pm it to me?

Really leaning towards this swap too but there is very little info. Anyone know of a good DIY or have done it them selves and can share/sell info such as parts lists, how to's, instructions and so on?

At the risk of getting flamed, why not just get a Chevy since the Chevy engine and trans are so good? After all, once you put a Chevy engine in a Rover is it really a Rover anymore?
