Puff of white smoke following cold start - how bad?
How did you determine a crack in the block? You could have an HG problem, and some warp to the heads (which can be taken care of by a machine shop for about $200 while you have the heads off). K-Seal won't work with warped heads, per their tech department. I asked. I suspect that most mechanic in a jar products would also have a challenge with a warped head. Kit of gaskets and bolts is about $300. You have the ability to read the manual, and a forum to research. If you could fix your Rover for $500, and keep it, you would be money ahead. If you screw up, you have not changed the value of the truck.

Hi SB...thanks for weighing in....your logic is sound. But unfortunately the story is a bit more involved. I will try to be succinct. I had the HG done about 40 days ago at a local reputable foreign spec that I have always gone to. About a week ago.....I call him back and let him know I have a milkshake under the oil cap...and the coolant is down a bit....I have AAA tow it back as he warranties his work....long story short....he re inspects heads gaskets, machines again...when they go to refill...they note it is taking too much coolant...they pull the oil drain and coolant pours out....Dx cracked block beyond sight even when heads are off.
at this point I need to just move on from LR. It's been fun but I have had a fair amount of work on this...at least I had an established relationship with the mechanic....maybe that was the issue all along or after over heating pre HG?
Thanks again...you guys have a awesome site full of knowledge and good humor too!

I am selling as is with full disclosure of cracked block of course. It has 87k miles....I have all service records....oil...differentials...plugs...front prop shaft...trans....Pilkington windshield.....have all been properly serviced/maintained. Interior is relatively clean...no rips..tears..but not pristine either.....no body damage except fine scratches here and there.....tires still fine too.....
What is a fair price? Please respond in $. I understand it is worth what someone is willing to pay and such.

It's technically non-driveable. I say no more than $450.00 yes I know that's really cheap, but there are rovers people have bought with no problems at all and been able to drive them and only paid $700.00
Where are you located?
my $0.2 worth.
