I have sprayed degreaser that I purchased from Sam's club, wait a few minutes and rinsed off right away. Works pretty good, better than brake clean.

Thumbs up

There is another post regarding engine cleaning entitled: Oil leak mystery - getting worse. Any ideas? ( 1 2 3) check it out. I use Simple Green. It is inexpensive, easy to use, non-toxic and environmentally safe, not to mention it does a great job. About $8 per gallon. In fact I bought a gallon at Home Depot on Monday that came with a spray bottle that was also full of simple green so it was like getting the bottle and a quart of juice for free. Best of luck.... Phil

I just put WS in my transfer case last night. Drove for 2hrs (My 12y daughter packed me a lunchbox ;-) and after the final drops apeard overnight, it was dry as a bone this morning. Wow.

I was curious the best way to get in there and decided to empty the TC first. Then I added the WS to a partially full container of gear oil. Shook it up a bit and then pumped it into the (almost) dry TC. Drove for 2hrs (my 12y daughter packed me a lunchbox ;-) between highway, frontage roads, city streets and, by accident, some curvy steep stuff.

After the final drops apeard overnight, it was dry as a bone after a few errands this morning. According toteh posts, unless there is a mechanicle failure of a part, it should be dry for a while.

It was very difficult to find out west (SF Bay Area) Despite the website that looks like everybody carries it, no one out here has heard of it...on either side of a counter. I contacted the manufacture and was told exactly which product and how much (full bottle) and that if I didn't find it to call and order. I almost bought from Amazon but found it $6 cheaper at AutoBarn.com. Shipping was slow but price was right.

As for the cleanup, I have used a degreaser that I got at Costco (Sam's equivalent) sold by the gallon with a spray bottle bonus. Don't know the name but has worked very well around the car for years. (Also used it on my coveralls and threw them in the wash, Worked very well too ;-)

I hope this helps, I get a lot out of this forum and am glad to give something back.

Tom

I wouldn't use anything more toxic than simple green on my engine. I just use the heated rinse at the car wash. Degreasers and especiall brake cleaner will eat your seals...

UPDATE: The leak is back and has been for a while. Seemed to work for about a week then drip, drip, drip.... May be time to R&R the rear seal.
