Default Quick question on discomikes list

Ok so with adding the Lucas tranny additive discomikes list says "service the tranny by adding 1 bottle of Lucas tranny additive" so with the engine at driving temperature I can just add a bottle in, do I need to worry about over filling it? Sorry someone is probably just as un knowledgable about mechanics as me and has probably already asked the question, I did a search but I didn't see my exact answer. Thanks for the help guys

Personally I would skip the Lucas and use something like auto RX that is going to clean the metal surfaces and then switch to a good synthetic ATF (just my .02 FWIW). And to answer your question if you are going to add volume you will need to remove some fluid. A small fluid pump works well. You do not have to worry about overfilling but if your AT is filled properly you will have fluid pouring out as soon as you remove the filler plug.

No. You perform a tranny service (fluid change) and use the Lucas additive as part of the new fluid refill. Read his list again, it doesn't say "perform the service BY adding Lucas" it says "perform the service adding Lucas."

x2. Over filling the tranny may case the seals to leak, and maybe even other problems.

Ha, yeah I did not catch that. Change your ATF, adding or not adding the Lucas is your choice.

It is quite difficult to overfill gear boxes with a side fill hole because the oil just pours out, how much can you overfill it?. I guess if you had an electric pump and sealed the hole while you pumped but I'm not sure anyone is that stupid or that well stocked to actually have an electric oil transfer pump. Also the ATF and Differentials all have breather tubes which I would assume relieve pressure even if you actually somehow got too much oil in there.

I would NOT use any additive unless you had a problem and you were looking for a Band Aid fix until you could fix the problem correctly.
If your transmission is not giving you fits then just change the fluid and filter and dont worry about it.

Just change the fluid and filter. I wouldn't flush at that mileage if you aren't having trouble. An aggressive power flush could cause more trouble than it might prevent at this point.

So, what do you think the Lucas does when added to your ATF???
