Default Quick and simple front shock replacement question.

I'm doing front shock replacement tomorrow due to completely blowing out the top bushings on my old TF shocks. I have a 3" lift on my DII and proper access to everything underneath. Is it even necessary to jack up the truck at all? I'd like to forego that step if possible. Thanks

I normally use a ratchet to undo the bottom 2 bolts. Then just remove the shock tower via the 3 bolts that hold onto it. Pull the hole thing out. No lifting required.

you probably need to at least take the weight off in order to open up the spring coils so you can get to the lower shock bolts. and since you have to take the shock towers out, you don't want to be fighting the pressure of the shocks when you're installing the new ones.

The shocks actually are freely moving and not under any load since the whole bushing up top is gone. its just the eyelet now. I can just take my hand and wiggle the whole thing around up there.

Good advice on the spring compression, I'll double check when I get under there but I could have sworn I had enough room to access the bolts. Thanks!

should have room to access from one angle but it will be a slow slog to get those bolts out but it can be done.

I change shocks all the time with coils still in place & all 4 wheels still on the ground. If the shock is gas charged just push it down & either have a helper hold it, or use an extension and get one 13mm nut started.
