Default Radio swap help

Hi.
I have a 2002 discovery 2 that came with the factory standard cassette radio 22dc597/60-L. I recently bought a Land Rover alpine radio Xqd000110puy. Naively I thought that it would be an easy swap as these are both discovery factory fitted radios.
the idea behind changing the radio was so that I could use a Grom audio Bluetooth adapter to get hands free in the car.
I quickly found that the wiring harnesses were different, so I bought an adapter of the internet. The issue I have is the radio all works correctly but the output volume is very low. I assume this is an amplifier issue. Does my disco have an amplifier?
Any help would be great received as I am stumped.
p.s the steering wheel controls now don’t work either which is annoying.
thanks.

Yours may not have had an amplifier originally, and the new radio needs one. Check under the driver's seat to see if there is a unit there.

Thanks for your messages. I have checked and I don’t have an amplifier.
wiring is not my strong suit, so sorry if these seem silly questions.
would it be as simple as just buying a second hand disco amp off eBay? Will the wiring be under the seat ready for it, or would I have to wire it myself? If so does anyone have a wiring diagram? Or could anyone explain in relatively simple terms? Thanks once again.

Hard to know if you have the wiring or not. The stock amp has a single, large plug going to it -- I believe it's grey. Wiring diagrams are freely available in the RAVE and the D2 Electrical Library.
It looks like there are some pins missing from your old plug and the harness going to the new radio, that would be needed for the full functionality of the new system. This is probably also why your steering controls aren't working.

Look for a large connector under the seat like this one. As you can see there are a bunch, most of which will be already connected, but if your truck is wired for an amp it will have this one down there connected to nothing.

There are also two types of high line amps available, maybe even more but these are the two I have experience with using that exact head unit whose model number ends in PUY. Both amps will work, the one on the left is an H/K and did not get quite as loud as the Lear on the left.

As mollusc says, the wiring diagrams are available in what's called the ETM (electrical troubleshooting manual) and pinouts of the various plugs are better described in the EL (electrical library). These are available through various links here on the site. If you are not already handy with electronics, you either will be by the time you're done, or this will be way over your head and you will need to enlist the help of a stereo shop.

Would it be worth it to just go with an aftermarket amp? May be able to get more out of it, more options?

An aftermarket amp might make good sense if there is no factory wiring present so you were starting from scratch and REALLY wanted to use the factory stereo. If the factory harness is there it will likely be a lot easier and cheaper to pick up a LR amp online or in a yard. My most recent truck came like this and I spent a few hours last Saturday morning to put it back to factory and make it look like my first pic. This aftermarket hack-job setup wasn't working and rather than try to sort that mess out I chose the factory route, which I actually prefer anyway.

OP, judging from what I see already it looks like you do not have the CD player or the rear headphones jack harnesses running up to the radio and that's why the big block at the top of the new radio's connector is empty. And after a little digging, the large radio connector you're showing coming out of the dash with the adapter connected to it looks like it goes directly to the speakers so I think you're sunk with regard to the amp wiring. Best bet is to buy an aftermarket radio with an internal amp and an adapter harness to connect it to your truck's existing power and speaker wiring.
