rear axel seal

rear axel seal
My 04 Discovery is with a non-Land Rover mechanic who said that he can not find a rear seal and bearing.
Within minutes, I ordered 2 O-ring seals from Atlantic British and the sales tech said that I probably do not need a bearing because I do not hear a grinding sound.
The mechanic also said that I might need a new rear axel if the bearing is really bad.
If anyone has any knowledgeable thoughts on this, I would greatly appreciate it. I plan to ship the truck to Sweden on the 18th and any leaks will be a big problem and expense there.
Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the advice!
What does the axel ride on if it is not roller bearings?
I thought I only needed new front brakes and a battery cable. The nearest mechanic is over an hour away and the truck is not registered or insured, so I had it towed to a closer place.
Is there any reason I should not trust this guy to do the job? He works mostly on fords and my Mother's Smart Car.

I think I remember the axle shaft of an old Heep Cherokee I had that the axleshaft itself was the bearing race, and after enough time you had to replace the bearing and the shaft.
