Default Rear cargo door latch problems

Hello lads,

I have an ongoing problem with my rear cargo door latch on my 1999 Series 1.

I go to slam the door closed and the door just bounces open again, not latching. Sometimes if I lock & unlock several times on the fob and try again, it works.

The dealer replaced the door mechanism last year when it was acting up, now it started again. I have had to secure the door with a ratchet strap between the safari roof rack and the ladder on the door.

Anyone else had this problem? How did you fix it?

Cheers,

Tony

I have this problem, many on this forum suggests to pop the green LR oval above the plate and lube the mechanism and spring.

Also clean the tracks below the door and lube it really well too.

+1. You don't really even need to disassemble anything a good shot of lithium or silicone spray under the handle and on the latch works too.

Every 6 months use silicone spray and pop the LR emblem off the rear door latch, lube the hell out of it working the handle, also lube the latch and key hole.
Then on the door stay, that thing under the door that stops it from opening to far, lube that with bicycle chain lube.
