Default Rear Door Latch

So, if my rear door latch handle is stuck in the "up" position. Door does not unlock.
Will replacing the internal latch mechanism resolve this? Or, is there something in the mechanics, the pin, etc that should be fixed?

Hoping to prepare for the repair this weekend, I bought the mechanism from Paul already.

Thanks,

have you removed the land rover emblem and sprayed the inside with pb blaster or something similar?

a common problem the LR emblem can be popped of with a small screwdriver, and you will see the mechanism spray it will penetrating oil and rock it back and forth with a screw driver it will usually release

Thanks,
Did mine last week. I broke most all of the plastic tabs pulling the panel off, so I spent the $15 and got 20 replacement tabs shipped from UK. They are a pain in the butt to find (at least for me they were). I ordered a door panel trim tool for when I do other doors. It's like $10.

The door lock mechanism has plastic sliding pieces that I think also went out of whack on mine. Usually the motor fails and that prevents the lock mechanism from going up and down, but also when the plastic part fails, other functions stop as well.

Any way, be prepared for the plastic tabs on the trim panel with proper tools or replacement tabs. Everything else is straight forward.

drowssap is not talking about pulling the rear door panel. He is talking about removing the LR emblem above the license plate.

Default spray

I did that few times and it did fix it.

However, i think it hit its limit and is now stuck with the handle up. I can not even lever it down with a screwdriver. This is what makes me think something in the handle, as opposed to the mechanism, is broker.

I guess i will find out this weekend.
Thanks for the input.

You need one of these:

Land Rover Discovery 1994 2004 Rear Cargo Tailgate Door Handle CBX102190 | eBay

Your handle is probably really rusty.

Right. In my case I just bend the WD40 straw and spray inside and it works all the time. Have not opened myself but I think those mechanism get rusted bad.

^^ I do this also.

In fact, I pretty much spray WD40 on all the door latches and mechanisms. Cant' be too careful.

Whoever had my vehicle before I bought it neglected it really bad. Was probably a soccer mom... I'm not judging
