Rear main seal install

Default Rear main seal install
I’m assembling my engine and having trouble getting the rear crank seal in place. Can I loosen the rear main cap, put the seal in place, and torque to the main cap to spec?

I bought a new Mahle seal locally and it went right in. The other all-makes brand from lucky 8 kept peeling the rubber coating off like it was a liitle too big
