Default Rear window defog inop; switch lights up!

Hello, all.
Looking for some expertise and perhaps past experience with this problem.
2002 Discovery II with 93,000 miles. Has been a largely trouble-free joy for the 7 years I have owned.
When activating rear window defroster, dash panel switch illuminates, and fuse F8 immediately blows. Panel switch remains lit.
There is continuity across the 2 connectors attached to the grid, so there does not appear to be a short there.
Would appreciate any ideas on where to start troubleshooting before really tearing up the truck.
Thanks for any advice.

I have the exact same problem. I looked for a short at the door juncture but could not find one. Going thru the wiring diagrams there is a relay which I think is fubar but it's not clear where the relay is. Best I can determine it is behind the dash center so just follow the wires from the switch. Got that item on my spring to-do list.

I would bet one of the metallic strips that goes across the rear window has been scratched and needs repair. The fuse is blowing because it is expecting a higher resistance.

I thought you could do an ohms test or some test along those strips to see where the break is....
