Default Reasons for BRAKE warning light

My BRAKE warning light flickered for a few days and is now solid.

Can that be anything other than the e brake switch before I start pulling that apart?

Check the brake fluid level.

For some reason these trucks have an unhappy relationship between the fluid reservoir and the master cylinder. Most of them that I see have a brake master that looks like it come up from the Titanic, which makes we wonder why they bother painting them in the first place. If you ever see one that looks relatively new, that's because it is.

of course. Should have known that.

hoping the level is low because I failed to fill it after doing rear calipers. Don’t see any obvious leaks.

fixed. Thanks.

The rear seal between the reservoir and the MC typically fails with age. Then it leaks, and you get low fluid level. The one other thing besides the ebrake and the fluid level that will set the light is a hard abs sensor fault - no data.

One additional possibility is the float on the brake reservoir sensor. It can lose it's buoyancy and flicker the warning light between good and bad (low).

Yep. A couple of people called it. The plastic reservoir seal to the metal MC is leaking.

I’m guessing the bit I need is in this kit somewhere?

That kit looks like it's for rebuilding the internals as well. I'm not sure if you can get just the reservoir seal(s) but assuming that kit rebuilds the whole thing, and you're just doing the reservoir, then it should suffice. I've never checked but make sure there's only one nipple between the reservoir and the MC because it looks like the two fat grommets are different and presumably only one would be for the reservoir and the other for something else (like the piston), otherwise I'd think they'd be identical if it required two. Most MCs I've taken apart have two entry points from the reservoir into the MC but it's certainly possible that Discos only have one. Pretty simple to check however, not to mention someone here will probably chime in and set me straight.

Edit: well, seems there are two entry points however the seals must be different because even the AB rebuild kit has two different seals in their pic.

Ordered the Britpart kit from Amazon for a few dollars more. Same rubber parts that’s in the AB kit.

I’ll let you know.

I have to say that having just done a flush and filled my fluid to the max, it held for a little while but then got low again. So I checked under the hood a week ago and noticed a little bit of a leak has developed, so I have some parts on order myself.

I recall reading beforehand that this is somewhat of a common occurrence on these vehicles.
