Default Refoaming subwoofer HK speakers

(UPDATE down below, I did this, re-foaming was successful but the speakers still don't work...sigh)

My cargo door subs are toast / decayed on my 00 with HK. I was going to toss in the bin until I realized only the foam was bad and there is actually a way to "refoam" speakers. Who knew.

Link here

Before I am sure to waste a Sunday reforming speakers like a perfectionist, has anyone tried this? On your Rover or otherwise. And did it work? Or is it futile?

Unfortunately finding speakers that fit the tailgate is near impossible from my research.

Refoaming speakers is pretty common among audio enthusiast groups. Definitely not a futile effort, and shouldn't be all that difficult, though if you wanted to upgrade you should be able to find some 6.5" subs that would fit back in place with a little work.

Interesting. I’m about to do the same for my HK subs.

Have you checked out https://www.parts-express.com/cat/ca...-subwoofers/54 ? In case you want to put in new speakers, but they have re-foaming kits too.

I put a pair of new 4 Ohm speakers in - they barely moved. I put in a set of OEM Philips speakers - same thing. I found an HK subwoofer assy at a Pick and Pull (with trashed foam rings) and put that in - the speakers actually moved in and out and produced more sound than the previous 2 attempts. I’ve tried to figure out what type of speakers (Ohms) originally came as subs for the HK system - no luck. I’m re-foaming.

BTW I messaged the ebay seller on the link I included earlier and they clarified that those foams are actually (technically) for the front door lower speakers "woofers".

Not necc the cargo door subwoofers.

I'm going back/forth w them with measurements. They want to be sure before I order.

I replaced my rear door speakers with some pioneers many years ago. It can be done.

how?? I’m trying to replace my front and rear door speakers. All four have gone out. I can’t seem to find any adapters that will enable me to screw the new speakers into the car.

I just used the kit listed by the op, and the results were very good. Easy install, and they sound as new. Would recommend to anyone over trying to find replacements that are currently available.
