I just used the kit listed by the op, and the results were very good. Easy install, and they sound as new. Would recommend to anyone over trying to find replacements that are currently available.
I replaced my rears with some generic subwoofers off of parts express years ago... to find the impedance/ohms of the factory subs simply hook a multimeter to each terminal of the sub and switch your meter to the ohms/resistance setting. I don't remember what the resistance of the factory subs are, but I know I had more faith in replacing them with new woofers of the same resistance than trying to repair or replace with HK subs. I also wired my line output converter to my big aftermarket subwoofer from the factory rear door sub wiring.
I should probably do a write up on my D2's audio system as I genuinely love it. All of my speakers/factory amp are genuine in front of the rear door, and I have the 04' optional factory Becker/GPS headunit wired to accept an auxiliary input which has a JL Audio Bluetooth receiver with powered preamp into the auxiliary line. It is awesome if you have the capability. I have a huge switch wired so that I can switch back to the factory CD changer (which I should mention has never been used and probably will never be used) which I keep in order to sort of keep a clean almost factory appearance and usability. In addition to having bluetooth that sounds great now through the oem headunit, I added a 12" Kicker L7S and 1000 watt amp into the rear compartment which is easily disconnected and removed with Johnson terminals. Love the stereo and clean almost stealth installation of it all.
Well, I bought that kit and spent 2-3 hours refoaming yesterday.
All went well, a tidy job and I was optimistic.
HOWEVER
Speakers must just be shot or blown (?). Sounds awful, "womp womp". Muddled, booming and like a blown sub I had in another car. Or perhaps HK amp channel is busted, but I'm betting on the sub... (anyone had this symptom with amp or is it the speaker assembly after all)
Couple pics. The work space **** for foam Undo this retainer Remove the old This product is unbelievable (and expensive) Wala Surrounds back on
Looks like you did a good job, the only thing I can think of is that maybe when you glued the surrounds on they might not be centered? That is probably the only thing that would cause you sound troubles unless the whole thing is electrically knackered.
if you have the surround it should be 700 but who knows if they changed things in the newer versions
the surround comes with 14 speakers and a useless sub.
the fronts are 3 ways with 6.5 mid bass, 3 inch mid range and the tweeter. all speakers are run active meaning that there is power going directly to every speaker. no crossovers
if you are going to replace just speakers and not a new amp etc you need to find 2 ohm speakers. this will greatly reduce your options
my defender is actually in the shop for a full build. Morel Speakers, amps, dsp etc etc.
