Default Remote entry - key fob issue

2000 Disco II SD

All of a sudden tonight my key fob stopped working.

I figured bad battery in the fob so I went to my back up fob and still nothing.

Both fobs light up when either button is pressed but they do not unlock or lock the doors.

Locks all work when unlocking with the key in the door.

Nothing has changed on my truck (no recent maintenance or anything).

Any tips or tricks or thoughts on what happened or how to re-initialize the fobs?

Thanks

Are there any fuses that I can check?

When I unlock the doors with the key in the door it unlocks/locks all the doors with one turn and the light on the dash will flash several times and then go out.

The truck starts fine once inside.

1. No fuse for RF receiver, it is a two wire connection direct to the BCU, which has power or you would have other issues.

2. See if this helps Help please guys! Remote locks work, key won't turn in ignition... stranded! and post back.

Hi Savannah Buzz,

Thanks for the link to the other site.

The instructions on the site didn't solve the issue but I decided to take out the left inside A pillar cover to look back there and found one of the purple wires in the bundle had cracked and was exposing some of the bare wire.

I fixed that and everything is now working again!

It must have been touching some metal in there (the pillar itself or the retaining clip for the wires) and must have been just enough to cause the issue.

Thank you so much for pointing me in the right direction.

Without that link I wouldn't have suspected that one of the wires in there might be the culprit.

Just another example of why this forum is so valuable to those of us who have issues.

Have a great weekend!
