Default Remote/FOB problems - detailed

So I have an 1997 Discovery and about 3 months ago the signal was dying on my remote so I replaced the battery, seemed to help a little bit. Now about 2 weeks ago it started getting weaker and weaker to the point where I would have to hit the fob button around 12 times to lock and unlock my doors. I tried replacing the battery and now it doesnt seem to work at all anymore, I have only gotten it to work once since. If I use the key or lock from the inside my central locking system still works so Im trying to figure out what could fade out thats particular to the remote system. Now I am using my key lock which is a big pain because my locks arent smooth and I dont think using the key enables the actual alarm system. Any ideas?

First of all, the key will full operate the alarm system, so don't wory about that.
As for the remote, the only thing I can thjnk of would be dirty battery contacts as well as the switch contacts, they do get a build up of corrision that can cause the remote to slowly fail. Open up the remotes and clean all the contacts and see what happens.

Well I was worried about the alarm not activating because if I use the key my lights dont flash and my friend was able to unlock the car through a window rolled down without setting the alarm off which I think usually happens.

Check your owners manual it will tell you how to
reprogram you remote.
The first time I changed a battery in mine I
forgot to hold one of the buttons down to make sure it
discharged (on the remote) and it was a pain it would
only unlock half the time and then less.
If you don't have the manual let me know I
will get mine and let you know.
I would think they would be the same.

I don't have they key fob for my Disco and when I lock/unlock the doors using the key, the lights do flash. If they are not flashing for you, I would suspect there may be something wrong with the alarm system in the Disco. Not sure how to check though.
