Yes, you are correct, 3/8-24 and definitely grade 5 nuts on the old ones as you don't want to mix bolt/nut grades.

Sorry, I think I was reading two output flange threads back to back and got them mixed up.

I used an impact wrench to loosen mine. Torquing it was a different story as I don't like to use the impact wrench for any assembly.

So I take it you did not use the reccommended tool to hold the flange in place?

no real need with an impact gun, you should be able to hold the flange with your hand.
