Remove lug nuts
RE: 2001 Discovery !!. Well i had no idea the lug nuts on my Discovery II had a chrome cap. I went to repair my tire and my tire iron wouldn't fit them as the lug nut cover seemed to have expanded from elements of the weather?? So, off to my mechanic i go. Anyway, can one purchase a complete set of lug nuts without the chrome caps? If so, where? Or do i just buy another complete used set as this is just something that happens as they get older.
Yes
Couple of places have them. You can also remove the caps

If you want to replace all the lug nuts for aluminum wheels, the part number is ANR3679. Give Trevor at RovahFarm.com a call he has them for $4.99 each (almost at bottom of the page) > RovahFarm for all your new Land Rover Parts and Accessories
The biggest killer of lug nuts is usually some drongo either tightening or untightening them with workshop air wrenches usually at a tyre shop. I have never seen a torque wrench used in these shops in 40 years. The worst move was the end of the old wheel brace spiders and the adoption of air wrenches.
If you need to remove the stainless outer shell from the lug nuts you will probably need to get hold of a smaller wheel wrench socket, preferably a six point and not a 12 point type, 6 point impact sockets used manually are good.
I have to admit I've never seen a lug nut with the s/s shell removed.

I am sure it was the workshop air wrench a couple years ago when i had new tires put on. Today i placed my tire wrench on all the lug nuts and they all have swollen/enlatged (?...not sure what word to use). So i guess it's a new set from REVAH FARM once i get the old ones removed. Good thing i didn't have a flat along a country road at night. Thanks for the comments.
