Removing cdl solenoid?
someone is parting out a disco 1 near me, i understand that they use a different linkage design, is it compatible with my 2004 shifter assembly or if not can i use the entire disco 1 assembly?
discovery's are few and far between here at local salvage yards

Hi did you figure that solenoid was bad? Maybe your CDL cable was bad to begin with, & that's why it's not doing anything now,?
You really don't want to swap-out a 04 cable for D1 set up, if cable is broke have a motorcycle shop (or similar place) make or cut similar length cable for you & just replace broken piece,

You said flops back & fort, meaning hi/low mechanism doesn't work now, what about left/right, (CDL linkage), does that one still work or not? If both don't work something must have come loose or dislocated, usually both cables won't snap at same time.
Locker works fine, left to right operation is fine. Front to back is completely limp. The something In the high-low actuation mechanism has completely let go. Im assuming the cable snapped, but looking from underneath, I can't even determine where the cable is, let alone what part of it is broken
You are right from underneath can only barely see parts of cables (mostly CDL cable), have to bite the bullet & go from top again, I know how it feels to have to do something twice, (been there) maybe this time as previously suggested use screws instead,
You can see it from the bottom if you get a telescopic mirror, a flashlight, or the 80.00 Camera from like Wal-Mart or Harbor Freight with the little monitor attached.
The cables have pivot pins that hold them into place. If not secured 100% they can rotate free and eventually fall out or cause the cable to come disconnected for sure.
The cable itself is pretty darn thick. It would be the first I've ever heard of actually failing. Only other ones I've seen destroyed were from the front driveshaft exploding and taking it out.
If it is the cable you shouldn't have a problem finding one at a junk yard. As far as the screws go vs rivets I'm a pretty stout guy myself when it comes to tightening stuff, but if you didn't drill them out to wide. The 1/2 inch screws I use snug up very tight and I've never had one strip out yet.
