Removing fuel filler neck and replacing grommet
I'm replacing the grommet that goes between the fuel filler neck and the body. I'm not sure yet if I'll have to remove the neck to do it – my first plan of attack is to soap it up and try to wiggle it on there. Anyone ever done this?
The RAVE has you drilling out a rivet to get to the fuel filler lines and then removing the filler neck, but looking under there it seems maybe you could get it out without taking off that bracket. Is that the case? Otherwise it looks fairly straightforward.

It seems like very few people have done this job, judging by the dearth of posts on it. Apparently you're supposed to fit the grommet to the body first, then push up the filler neck through it. Unfortunately every time I push up the filler neck, it pushes the grommet off the body.
I'm seriously considering using some split-open rubber hosing, as someone suggested earlier.

Probably few with exp. changing as you mentioned, damn those pump jockeys for making yours go bad. Some photos of your project may be helpful for others in the future. Thanks and good luck.

Did mine. Lubed it up, poked and prodded...all good.
I found that rubber in a rover, brand new in the package. Also a set of exhaust manifold gaskets and the lower exhaust to pipe gaskets, also new in the package. Just waiting to use them lol.
