I understand all of the seals and am planning on that as well.
As the bearings wear oil pressure drops, 100k is the life of the bearings. It's not a "problem" as much as it's just maintenance. A new pump gear set is just cheap insurance, cracked gears are common. The cam gets work hardened by the lifters, once its face is stone hard from working on the factory lifters, you can put another set of new lifters on it without a problem. I have wiped out a few new cam/lifter combos, but I have never wiped an old cam out.

Look like $500. Even at Rockauto.com
Rip off man..
I would not do it as the parts cost way too much..

Looking at Rimmerbros.. A lot there too and the prices are in UK pounds.

Keep a eye on the value of the USD compared to the GBP, when the dollar is solid worth more it is cheaper to buy parts from the UK, just watch out for shipping charges.
When the dollar is low it costs WAY to much to buy from the UK.
e-bay is the best place to find parts from the UK.

Well, I think I have answered my question.

I pulled the lifters and almost everyone of them had a very slight (and I mean very slight) concave on the bottom of them.

The cam also had some discoloration on a couple of lobes.

So, I guess I am now going to replace. Trying to find the best prices. The cam seems to be the cheapest part of this so if anyone has a good (aka inexpensive) source please let me know.

Oh man.
I put lifters in our Discovery I.
And not a new cam.
What harm will that do?

the old cam will most likely wipe out the new liters and you will start to notice a lot of valvetrain noise, followed by poor performance.

Thanks Chris.

Put those new lifters in at 136,000 miles on the D1.
We are at 164,000 miles now and all is OK so far.

Others in my life say - this is a 15 year old truck "get rid of it".
But, that is another story...

I say "there are no car payments on it. No high insurance to pay".

I just sold a Saab at 197,000 miles. I bet the new owner has it over 200,000 now..

If you want a car that never dies - 1999 Saab 93. Incredible.
