Oh. My. I bent my screwdriver last night and got started. I tore my first motor apart when I was 15 (Buick Riviera's 455). I thought that since Landy's have a GM block that working on them would be straightforward enough. I have had Mercedes, BMW, and several Ford/GM trucks cars, nefver seen anything as ridiculous as this.

I would personally like to punch the clown that determined the placement of a "maintenance" item behind and under and in back of...everything.

Eff you Land Rover. Dumb idea. I am swappping in a straight 5 diesel as soon as I can. (Cause the off road capabilities are to die for)!

However, my medium-to-small sized hands just weren't making the grade.

I propped the intake manifold up/off in 15 minutes. Boom!- full access for what you need.

Well, I finally found out where all the connections go and stopped all issues with leaks, wires, plugs, cables, etc. THIS IS NO EASY JOB if you have big hands or arms.. But, she runs great now and has been ALMOST brought up to current. Just need to do the T-Stat and the coolant cap. ALMOST done....

 

Hey all, great advice and tips, I did this job the other day and all went well. I took my time, and did it in about 4 hours. This included repairing a few others things that I broke or noticed needed replacement while in the process.

TIP - If you're going to lay across the top of the engine (which is likely) I suggest unplugging the brake servo vaccum line from the intake. I snapped mine and had to repair it.

My Disco ran great for the first 30 miles, but now I'm getting another intermittent miss. It only seems to happen at around 35 mph while accelerating though. I hope I just have a loose connection, that's getting bumped everytime I hit these Detroit potholes. I will try to remedy that this weekend. I'll take another photo set and post them here if anyone is interested in having additional reference material.

Any other thoughts aside from a bad coil?

Did you replace the intake gasket?

 

no need to just flip it over, your only removing the upper intake correct

 

So I took it all apart and reseated the ignition wires at the coil, fearing this was the problem...and I'm still getting an intermittent miss in Cylinder 1, and a "random misfire multiple cylinders" code.

I have a generic code reader, and I'm getting nothing suggesting the coil is bad.

I know I have a secondary air issue, and I'am also getting an O2 fault, but I replaced the two upstream O2 sensors not long ago.

any other suggestions before I just buy a new coil and replace that?

UPDATE - I spoke with my Service Advisor at the local Dealership, and he said that based on my description of the problem, it could be a weak coil. Apparently this can happen without throwing codes.
