Default RE: replacing ecu (main computer)

I am still trying to figure out what a roomer is.

I tried searching for a definition, but found nothing. My only conclustion is that some dumb backwards redneck was trying to spell rumor.

rravenn13:
Find a small rover shop near you that has a rover compatible scanner. If you need help finding one, try www.rangerovers.netas they have a list of recommended shops around the country. Ifthat doesn't help, call Atlantic British and find the nearest shop with an Autologic scanner. I am really hoping that your comment was just read wrong. If this is the tone you are going to take on here, don't come back. You are more than welcome on here as long as you can play nice and not trash something we all have a passion for. Good Luck in your ventures.

Sorry to drudge up this old thread, but just to make sure I understand, there is no way to DIY. Is that correct?

Just replaced the ecu in my 2002 with a rebuilt unit from Repair your ecm or have a rebuilt ecm shipped for free. a little pricey at $560 but solved all of my problems. sent my computer to them and they read the rom and burned it into the new one plug and play no trip to the dealer for programming on a testbook. if the url does not show google ecmoutlet

I have a 2000 Disco 2. It won't turn over. I replaced the battery with 1000CCA. I thought it needed more juice. Nothing! I was told to replace starter because when I arced it, it turned. Nothing! Could it be a fuse? Fuse box? Ignition? No juice is even going to fuel pump! My car shows no codes either. Should I just dump it for a low price (3500 or so) get a new one, and be done with it? I don't want to put a lot of money into an old car! HELP!

Sorry to dig up this old thread. I wish I would have found this thread before buying two ECU's.. Before you jump all over me as a newbie, I completely rebuilt the engine in my 2001 disco, did the 04 head lamp upgrade, and so much more. After putting on a Terra Firma lift kit, new tires, I managed to get her stuck in a river where she sat for 5 days before a Suzuki Samari rock crawler yanked her out. I was able to drive it home but the rover now just starts, runs for 10 seconds and stalls. I've replaced the CPS, MAS, Fuel Rails with injectors, Fuel Pump (filter), plugs, IAS, and just about everything else I could think of. All fuses are good. My last hope was the ECU, I thought the first one I bought was junk as it wouldn't even start. Same deal with the second one. Now I read they must be programmed to "hand shake". This thread is 8 years old, any news on how to DIY this? Or do I need to find a shop...

it can be done yourself but it require tools such as a hawkeye, nanocom or autologic to program,
i believe jafir would be the best person to about that he seem to have quite a bit of knowledge in that area.

Another option is to buy a mated set. ECU, BECM, and gauge cluster then it is plug and play. Your mileage will then be that of the set.

I have some 03/04 sets but Paul Grant my have some earlier sets for you.
