If it was the CPS this whole time you now know which 2 mechanics NOT to take it to in the future.

@Gary Archer man I feel for you that is just sad, every modern vehicle has the equivalent of a CPS. The symptoms are always the same everything works but no spark, generally you get warning but like you I did not.

Still a bunch of reading on this forum, plus suggestions and got me sorted.

Have you ever had someone actually scan it with a shop level high end scan tool? OBD dongles and even the moderately advanced scan tools cannot access all systems

I have seen several cars with a crank, no spark condition that was caused by an issue with the security system. There is a ground failure off the BCM that happens that will essentially stop the car from deactivating the immobilizer and authorizing spark. You will need a security capable scan tool to read that system.

The ECU can also have a similar ground control loss that will cause the coils not to light off correctly. You can usually clean grounds on that circuit to help with that.

Not everything on these cars is garage capable, you may need to bite the bullet and find someone who is an actual rover specialist, not someone who "works on rovers"

EDIT: Late to the party, looks like you figured it out

It normally takes 50-100 miles of mixed highway and street driving for all monitors to clear, sounds like maybe you didn't drive it enough.

did you get an angers unit NNN500020 reprogrammable / usually a braker will have a discovery, normally (unless some has locked it) they require nothing more than installing and cranking the car.
