There are other lug nuts for the DII ( ANR4851 ) BUT they are ONLY for steel wheels.

Save yourself a headache and call Erik @ L8 or get ANR3679 lugs from their ebay store > Land Rover Discovery 2 99 04 Wheel Lug Nuts Set x20 ANR3679 New | eBay
You will be glad you did.

The nuts are a constant crisis. I've ended up taking an angle grinder to mine to get them back to size. Probably not advisable.
One thing I have been doing that I highly recommend: any time you take her to a garage, insist on no air tools being used. If they take issue with that, move on.

And welcome to the forum. We will all work hard to keep the nonsense down to the minimum, won't we fellows?

P.S. The correct size is 27mm not 1 1/16th — these trucks are built in England where metric is used not imperial.

I use a 27mm, but have pondered if it is not 1-1/16. I would love it if we could hands down say our trucks are metric, but I believe they are a mix.

The definition of imperial refers to the British Empire. I do not know enough to say when the UK officially converted to metric(like we said we were in the 70's!), but maybe another member can clear that up.

From Wikipedia:

"The system of imperial units or the imperial system (also known as British Imperial[1] or Exchequer Standards of 1825) is the system of units first defined in the British Weights and Measures Act of 1824"

let the the debate commence...

On my lugs with caps I use 1 1/8. When I have them off the truck, I remove the caps with brute force. I use 1 1/16 on the ones without caps. I just use impact sockets (the slightly rough, black ones). Imperial fits my ego and, anyway, that's how the set came from harbor freight. I actually got it for the rough 5/8 socket that removes head bolts. A 9/16 is also good for removing motor mounts and driveshafts. Just sayin'...

As for swollen nuts, I'm afraid to read back but have had caps on my lug nuts... I suppose... swell and stick in the socket. I am glad when they do because that makes the caps easier to remove, permanently.
