Question Rescue Mission in some water and now trans in limp mode

Hi Everyone,

Went wheelin yesterday through some of my favorite trails. Everything went well until one of my friends in his Ford Ranger got stuck in 2-3 foot deep water. I backed in to rescue him in water I had been through several times before. However this time it took about five minutes of sitting in the water before we pulled out. Water did come into the vehicle.

Now the trans in is limp mode and the transfer case disengage light does not work. At first the speedometer was a little hesitant and started working again. The trans would go in neutral but it would not register on the instrument cluster or light up at the shifter and neither did 2 or 1. All those came back in a few minutes but I could not get the vehicle out of low range for a couple miles. Neither the M or the S lights ever came on.

Got home. Hooked up the code reader and got three codes. Rough road, low voltage and 0600 Serial Communication Link. I erased the codes and neither rough road or low voltage have come back but 0600 still shows.

The vehicle has been drying and I got a little heater going in there. Where do I go from here?

Thanks all,

Fred

Also check your differentials for water, unless you extended your breathers.

go to your favorite auto parts store and buy some dielectric grease, when you get the connections cleaned out and dryed out , apply some of that to all of them.........good insurance

You need a new trans ECU.

I am out of town for a couple days but will get back and unplug and clean. She is sitting with her nose up and a heater inside. Any other useful insights?

Thanks

Looks like some good drying out did the trick and the trans is back to normal. Got some bad speakers though. Any recommendations?
