Default Rev Counter Query

Hi all,

The other week, i had to cross a river a few times to get to a hut for the weekend. The disco is a bit sensitive to water after a while (a '97 3.9) and spluttered away for a few minutes before clearing up. What worried me for a split second is that the rev counter stopped working occassionally. I was moving & excellerating but the counter said 0 revs. I guess its electronically controlled - but how does it work; off the dizzy or alterntor?

Cheers

The tachometer runs off of the alternator not the distributor.
So...your alternator is toast, the battery light on the dash should have come on.
It is probably the original alternator and getting wet to many times did it in.
No big deal, easy DIY job, 30 min once you have the new one.
Can you post pics of your river crossing and your hut? Your truck too?
We like seeing other peoples places that they drive and such.

Check for water in the crank trigger connector.

I would suggest you seal all your electrical connections, under the hood, before you get stranded.
