The fuel savings alone will pay for a rental car for the trip.

Jug of Rotella, not just a quart. Box of tools. All kinds of sets on sale right now for Father's Day.

Use an Ultra Gauge or scanner to watch coolant temps underway, the factory gauge will wait until you are smokin' hot to move off 50%. The time to start checking is now, incase your radiator is sludged up. Also check your viscous fan clutch before you leave.

Download the RAVE onto your mobile device or a USB drive in the glove box.

Review your towing coverage. I have State Farm, and for $5 a month it added roadside support and towing.

Remember, the D1 owner manual says check oil level every 250 miles. The D2 says:
Also, plan the route to stop by several new u-pull-da-partz salvage yards. "Honey, I'm only going to be a minute to look for a roof rack". That's a vacation "find". If she can stop for shopping, then so can you.

Be sure your vehicle battery is up to snuff, good connections.

.
Already got a 180F thermostat, Ultra Gauge, brand new battery and RAVE on my tablet. Will upgrade quart of oil to jug.

Are any of the coolant hoses a weak link? I can't bring all of them, but if one in particular (usually the upper rad hose on most vehicles) is more prone to failure, I'll go with that.

Regarding getting tow coverage through your insurance company....

Word of advice which I recently learnt myself from my insurance agent. Any claims for tow coverage on my policy goes on the # of claims "hits" which may potentially raise my rates in the future. He advised I cancel tow coverage and get a AAA membership. My tow coverage premium was about $25 for a year.

My AAA Oregon coverage is just $50+ buck which covers tow coverage, battery jump starts and bicycle commuting rescue (if my bicycle breaks down). The AAA membership also provides a 10% discount on many hotels. The AAA fee pretty much paid for itself.

Good luck on your trip.

+1 on a CKP. Could be hard to find in a small town. I have some pulleys, belt, and fluids. I might have an IAC. Can't remember. Of course my tool bag and multimeter.
