Roasted buns???
Has anyone else experienced, complained, noticed, or otherwise commented that the heated seats in a Disco 2 get really hot? I wore jeans to work today (Friday) and I literally got uncomfortably warm to the point I had to turn it off. Yes, I've noticed it every time I've used them before, but thought it was just the thin dress pants. Pretty sure I could warm up my lunch on the seat! All I see is an on and off, no pot to adjust the temp....
Is this just typical?

My Kalahari had heated seats like that, then one day the previous owner wore shorts (gym teacher) and a piece of wire poked thru the seat and burned him. I’ve had some be extremely hot & others barely do anything. I also had my 97 RR 4.6L HSE Vitesse try to catch the inside of the seat on fire....
They get hot when one of the wires starts to wear thin causing a higher resistance point in the element. Higher resistance leads to more heat dissipation. Normally they are suppose to just be warm, not hot.

In my 2004, they seem hot, but not overly so. I have often thought that the degree seat warmers heat up, is proportional to degree God is trying to tell you that you have way too much money.
As someone else mentioned, it's what happens when part of the element gets damaged/pinched and all the resistance designed to accommodate the entire length of the element is now concentrated in only a portion of it. I'm guessing you're only feeling the heat on one side?
Same goes for my driver's seat. Only the left side works and it's WAY too hot. That's the most common failure point. It's caused by the constant pressure of sliding in and out of the seat from the left. All driver's seats take a beating on their left edges, especially in SUVs, which sit higher.
I've been thinking about replacing the element for awhile now, but it looks to be a huge PITA.
