Default Brilliant Men...

To Jeffh...

I second that emotion. I haven't even learned from my own mistakes; I'm on LR #3.

Guess I'm not brilliant...yet!

Take cheap oil, put in aluminum pan, cook at high tempertures.

What is no fun is that your really can't see it on a casual inspection, you don't get much of a view of the rockers with the baffles inside the valve covers. If some of these pix we have been posting don't prompt people to change oil and service their PCV, I don't know what would.

I'm feeling better about pulling mine apart at 75k while everything was still clean.

Have you gotten to look at or install the rocker assemblies yet? Looks like I may be in the market for some soon, but the super cheap price concerns me a bit. Let me know what you think.

The shafts and arms were waiting for me when I returned from vacation on Friday. On Saturday, I got them installed along with the new valley gasket and lower intake. All the parts were Allmakes brand.

When I was cleaning the valve covers, I found a LKQ warranty sticker from 2008. Looks like my Disco had a rebuilt or junkyard motor installed in it. I want to see if I can contact LKQ with the motor info and see if they can tell me what was put in.

Hopefully I will get it back together this weekend.

Your block serial number (near dip stick) will also tell you what is in there. First few numbers.

I need to get the serial number.

I am hoping that LQK can tell me if it was rebuilt or just pulled. If it was pulled how many miles.

LKQ near me is in the business of selling u-pull parts on old stuff, and higher end parts from newer wrecks to shops. I suspect it is not "rebuilt". The serial number is stamped in the top face of the block, so you look down from above if manifolds are not covering it up. There is a curve in the heads that makes this area of the block surface visible.
