Default Roof Bar Seals

I've been asked by my elderly neighbour , who owns a 2004 D2 and not very computer literate to put up a post on his behalf.

He has the G4 Roof Bars and has noticed the roof lining is wet, a closer inspection confirmed the roof bar gaskets are the issue.

Has called the local Stealers , who say the Roof Bar gaskets are obsolete and would not give out part numbers. Can anyone help auld Hamish with part numbers ?

There was also the possibility of using a sealant adhesive around the base of the bars and then setting the bars in place , what is the best adhesive to use for this and one that won't damage the paintwork , can anyone recommend sealant?

Been advised no TigerSeal as its hellish to remove if required to do so.

TIA

I used clear silicone, if use a soft plastic spatula you can lift the seal and get underneath - yes it is painful. Then you need to get around the roof bar where it meets the seal figure a couple of hours.
Also if there holes in the roof bar for cross rails get a bolt that fits and seal it really well

Mine has not leaked since I did that

@RizzleKicks Yup standard clear is all I used, you could use black if you can find it but it was easier to use clear.

I took the headliner down and used it as an opportunity to fix leaks with the sunroofs and the bars. I used flex seal inside and ouside. I also reconditioned the seals with some silicone.

I’ve also seen people remove the bars and run without them. There is a plug that goes over the holes. I don’t know the part number though

The part number is M0338-001. They are the same size as the holes left behind from removing the roof bars. They fit right in but it is good to apply a small amount of silicone around the seal.

The 2004-only roof bar seals are pretty easy to seal with black silicone / sealant. Just remove the bars (which requires removing headliner, sorry ... ! ... and seal the holes. Much easier to seal than the silly foam ones on the earlier models that absorb water.

Just don't use too much
