I have a used pair of roof rail extension which I am looking to install this weekend.

One of my Land Rover local shops advised doing the installation myself as a special guide tool is needed to drill into the holes into the roof.

Has anyone attempted this installation? Just wondering if I can simply remove the rear part of the headliner trim and do the installation myself?

look at step 3,4 & 5. It looks like the original kit provides a drill guide that you drill thru the roof (form the inside) and you use that hole to locate the hole saw and drill form the outside. You need to get the drill guide and gaskets.

Thanks for sending the link to the installation instructions. This help me to understand the location of the hole.

I will remove the artic window trim panel to see if I can drill a hole accurately without using the guide tool (which I am missing). If I am not confident in being able to accurately plot the hole position, I will send it to the LR shop for installation.

 

Where did you get the extensions?

 

I bought a used set from this forum. LR no longer supplies the rail extensions or the cross rails. This is the only site where I know a new set is still available.
