HAHA I like the emoticon. I sprayed brake fluid everywhere because I couldn't find my starter fluid (I think I wasted it on my mower--figured out the the carb had stuff in it and fixed it in about 15 minutes. I sort of wish rovers had carbs)) and a p1884 popped up. It went away but it occurred to me I must have sprayed so much that it jumped a contact in one of the connectors. EEK! Sadly I couldn't hear any change in the engine while I did that.

I'm going to pull the fan shroud and remove the fan. With that off I should be able to see some smoke getting sucked in and get real close to the location of the whoosh.

Took the fan off. Nada. Sprayed starter fluid everywhere. Even I got concerned about the giant cloud of starter vapor and I'll put a cigarette out in gasoline (neat party trick... Won't ignite... DO NOT TRY). . So, I took the intake off and examined the plenum gasket. Looked fine. No marks, nothing out of the ordinary. I changed the doohickey behind the throttle body for my other one. Same. Ran a piece of metal through all of the upper intake tubes... No obstruction (to explain the air sound). Sigh. Replaced all of my idle and tensioner pulleys (much quieter... Accentuates the whooshing sound). Double sigh.

Any other suggestions?

Oh, and then my SRS light came on. And stayed on.

Down on my Rover tonight.

Did you ever do a smoke test? A vac leak can be near to impossible to find without a smoke test.

If you can't find a vac leak then maybe you need to look close that the O2 on the front right side. I know you just replaced them but you might want to check the connectors really well and pack them with Dielectric Grease or replace the front right O2. It might still be under warranty if it's really new

Hi Jared. I need to Google smoke tests. I did remove the fan and had a smoke generator... Cigar... Watched for any sign of anything on all of the hoses and fittings and didn't find anything. I'll be smart and do a real one.

This evening, I heard a slap under the truck and it sounded like a playing card in bicycle spokes. I was lucky enough to have a loose sticker on my driveshaft. It's gone. But I also noticed what looked and smelled like gas coming from the top of my tank.

Appreciate your input. I'm going to do a real smoke test or die trying and, as always, will report back whether I win or lose.

Best,

Charlie V
