Default Rough Start on 99 Disco

Does this sound like a normal problem? i have a 99 Disco II w/99,000 miles. Recently, it has been starting up rather roughly. Seems to puff exhaust rather that a constant flow. Slight hesitation pulling away. It started out of the blue after it sat for a day or two and it was rainy. Now it happens after it has sat for a while regardless of the weather. Any ideas. the problem goes away after 5 minutes of driving.

I had a similar rough idle on my 99 D2 at about 65K miles. Started when it was parked at the airport for a few days in winter. Didn't ever look at the exhaust. Ran rough for a few minutes anytime it had sat for a few days. Also was getting a check engine light. Bad news was that it turned out to be a sticking valve (exhaust I think). Good news was that I was taking it in for leaking head gaskets anyway, so the valve job only cost an extra $600. I don't think the leaking gaskets had anything to do with the sticking valve, since they were only leaking coolant to the outside.

Hope you have better news than this.

Have you ever had one of those fuel system power cleans performed? If so what were the results?

No, I have never had one done. I've never really bought into the whole fuel system cleaning thing, but then I've never tried it either. I guess a clogged injector may cause the behavior you are seeing. Mine only had the rough idle a couple times before the check engine light started coming on. Once that came on, I let the dealer handle it.
