Default RPM at 70 mph

Had my LR for a week now. The RPM at 70 mph is at 2500 rpm. It seems high and thought maybe it was not shifting into high gear. Anybody know this?

I thought that was about where mine is. I'm running 255/60-18" tires and my speedometer is spot on with my GPS unit.

I can't comment on the V8 rpm but if the M&S lights are illuminated the truck is stuck in 3rd gear in 'limp home mode'. The TD5 would be around 2300 to 2500 rpm at around 70mph or 2000rpm at 60mph in imperial miles.

That's normal RPMs. Checked mine yesterday and today to verify prior to reply.

Interesting observation,

Speedometer 70 = 2500 RPM on instrument panel.

Speedometer 70 = 65mph on Ultragauge

UG 70 mph = 2750 rpm as read on both UG AND instrument panel which now reads 75 mph.

Instrument panel differs from UG by 5 mph ish at 70mph and up.

RPM's read exactly the same on UG and instrument panel at all speeds.

The UG has a correction factor. There is a procedure to set in in the manual. It involves finding a road with mile markers and going a few miles and comparing that distance to the distance on the UG.

My UltragaugeII has a similar feature for calibration and read lower than actual MPH.

Check my newly added vehicles or with new tires using interstate mile markers for odometer and then speedometer for one minute miles at 60 MPH. Will normally check over 5-10 miles and repeat several times to account for slight variation of marker placement or cruise control. Prefer to know actual miles driven to compute MPG and nice to know actual speed. My D2 is spot on for both miles and speed running stock wheels/tires.

Hi, i have Disco 2 V8 and was looking to make 35 inch tyres any suggestion what to do? Change the transfer case to 1.4 or 1.6 or change the ratio in the differential?
Driving with 70mph what do you consider the average RPM has to be?

Thanks in Advance
Sean

Speedo gauges are not the most accurate instrument, any were from 5-10%, and don't for get as your tyre tread wears down the distance covered per rotation gets smaller, my sat nav is away spot on when I go through speed checks in Europe, my speedo shows any were from 3 -5 miles faster, which means if I drive to my speedo I don't get a speeding ticket
