Default Saga of an engine Identification

This post is really more of PSA than anything else.

As many of you know I am stripping down a 4.6 liter engine, or so I thought.

The engine came out of 2003 Discovery II so it should have been a 4.6 but there are some anomalies :
  1. The crank is marked 4.0 I have not been able to determine if this unique to 4.0 and 4.6's should be marked 4.6
  2. The engine number is electro penciled and starts with 56D - a 4.0 block number The normal number is stamped.
  3. Non Sai heads odd but no necessarily anything of note
I am now down to checking the connecting rod length, although I thought the crankshafts were different.

The crank should have 4.6 cast into it toward the front I believe.
