Exclamation Seat belt retract/lock issue

Finished pulling the headliner out of the truck tonight for my little project. In doing so, I had to remove the rear lower plastic side panels too, and to get them out I had to undo the bottom of the seat belt harnesses.

The back seat (middle row for my truck) driver-side seat belt has retracted and locked, it won't release enough to even re-fasten it to its mount. It's always worked perfectly, and I didn't do anything crazy with it... Am I missing something? I've completely removed the entire assembly from the truck now, allowed it to retract as far as it will go, and still it will not release for me to unwind it and re-install it.

I need to get this fixed ASAP, it's important my boys be able to buckle up on the way to school!

I can post pics if anyone needs clarification to offer insight.

Thanks!

You broke it.
There is a cam in there that locks the seatbelt, if you tip the tensioner in the wrong direction you will lock the seatbelt.

If you can look down inside it you will see a wheel with notches on it, the cam locks into the notches.
Good luck.

Wasn't broken, just retracted beyond the point it was supposed to. Got it to release with some finesse and stuck a binder-clip on it to keep it extracted until after it's reinstalled.

Words of advice to anyone moving forward with seatbelt removal- clip something onto the belt to keep it from retracting too far... it will make your life easier!

Thanks in advance.

That does help a lot. I could not figure out how to take the trim off, short of ripping it off. Will be an easy fix now. Sad thing is I have the rave manual and did not think about looking through it. Thank you for the lead.

Default I found a fix

All, No need to buy another seatbelt. I had the problem last night and fixed everything in about 30 minutes. The PDF from DiscoDOS will tell you how to get to the belt mechanism. Take it off. Once off, you’ll see that One side has a flat piece of plastic (the part that holds the spring)...don’t touch that. The other side has a plastic cover and it basically slides off with a flathead. Once inside you’ll see a metal V shaped pin on the top...take that off. Now get a small object (I used the SIM card removal tool from my iPhone) and stick it in at an angle like the picture shows. It may require some movement but if you push it in it’ll disengage the seat belt lock so you can pull out the slack you’ll need to fix the belt. Don’t forget to put the pin back in. Mine works just fine now. I hope this helps. Thanks, Gary

Slide this cover off. Per the angle in the picture it will slide towards 2 o clock.

Stick the SIM tool in the small hole where the other pin was located.m, then push down and to the right.

Some extra photos to help see what’s going on under there and see what you’re trying to accomplish by sticking the pin in there. Finally got mine released, amazing how that tiny plastic piece can be so strong.
