As for the Land Rover, I didn't buy it for and it wasn't designed for fuel economy. I have a Volvo for that You might get 27mpg by tailgating an 18 wheeler going down a 27 mile hill.
My wife has a 600cc gasoline Smarty, I'm really big hearted - ya know , if she's really, really good I'll take her out in the RRS or D2 but not often in the Pajero, although it's comfortable it's old and a bit of a dog but good off road.

Calibration Procedure:
1. Fill up the fuel tank.

So much for calibration on my UG.

I forgot to post the good news from wednesday. I had been hypermiling the disco and it was time for its $75 fill up. As we had gone considerably further (30 miles!) than the last tamk, I decided to go back to the same gas station. $70 later she was topped off! I hopped in and did the math... wait for it... wait for it..... 12.73 mpg!

Thats right... almost 13mpg in all city driving!

".................wait for it... wait for it..... 12.73 mpg!" .........it's a long time since I had such low fuel consumption in any vehicle, in fact, the last one was my 2000 D2 V8 driving around town. I suppose that's the penalty, a heavy 4x4 truck with a largish petrol engine that's not overly efficient. I couldn't afford to run one in europe with the long distances covered here.

and we spend so much money for mods and lifts, only to lower the mpg.
after rehabbing my d2, I was getting over 15 mpg, stock. after thousands of dollars in goodies..........just over 12 mpg at last checkI have done more since then...so prolly less, now.
but I get lots of compliments at the gas stations
but maybe, that is because I am such a valued customer

I have been shopping those ^electric things. I checked out the teslas and volt... I don't fit, very well. but I plan to offset the deficit, as soon as I find a comfortable drivers compartment.

I looked up the rolling circumference of the 2 stock tire sizes for the d2 and the circumferences are almost identical. ( due to the different sidewall sizes I guess).

I was given a 2001 Prius a few years ago that needed the battery rebuilt. I'm having trouble with getting it transferred, so I don't drive it, but I did test it for a few weeks. It has 199k miles on it. Never been overhauled. Still drives like a brand new car. And, the kicker, it gets around 40 MPG. You can buy these with less miles for about $2500 around here. Not a bad investment. My mom just bought a 2008 last year. She's getting 45 MPG. Probably due to her driving habits, she's 77yrs old.

They have plenty of leg room, storage in the back, and lots of neato options.

If they weren't so FUGLY, I'd recommend one of these. It really is a well built vehicle. The other issue is the up-front cost on a new one. WAY too much money. It would take forever to recoup your investment.
