No dipstick.
Easy way to find out which component, since they are normally open switches, which close to indicate a problem, is to unplug one at a time. As for checking fill level, under the truck some one will wiggle. See attached. It has always been written in Murphy's Law that any O-ring removed for inspection shall be torn by the process.
Here are some pages from the RAVE that cover these issues with pictures. It is important to note that while fluid may have been changed recently, it is a Rover and there is always the possibility some has leaked out.

Door key tumbler in the driver's door which accepts the key
transmits motion via a plastic HEX extension from the lock
mechanism / tumbler in the door TO the door unlock / lock electrical motor mechanism.
like this
KEY--DoorLock---Plastichex extension---DoorLockMechanism
The plastic key hex extension can fall out or get stripped.
Or the door lock mechanism fails.
To fix - pull the door apart from the inside.
Probably best to replace the door lock mechanism which is a little self contained machine whereas the wires and a lot of door locking rods connect to.

Which switch is this? It's just weird how the light goes off and on. You would figure after driving for a few minutes it would go on and stay on.

Looking at the pix attached above from the RAVE and you'll see that switch on side of transfer case has exposed metal prongs, which can build up gunk. Your Rover may not be as clean as the one in the photos. Grounds from conductive "scum" have a mind of their own and can be temperature sensitive as well. When you crawl under there to look, take a can of brake parts cleaner.
Of course, if you unplug one and it still lights up it is time to check the other switch, so you have pretty good odds of isolating it.
