I found the answer to my own problem. There is a small box that says emmission maintenance reminder on it and if you inplug it the light goes off. it comes back on when i plug it in but I live in arizona and if that light is on they will not do an emmissions test. So I am just going to unplug it for the test and plug it back when done just in case it needs to be plugged in for some reason.

It will work. With the car on just stick a paper clip in the LR emblem. You'll feel a small hole and it will go through and short it out, resetting the reminder. You should get your codes read though, there could be another problem.

The "service engine soon" and "check engine" are two seperate lights and mean two different things, the one that you are thinking of hazlett is the "check engine" light, that is the one that lets you know that there is a stored fault, the "service engine soon" light stores no faults, it is strictly a emissions reminder, meaning to check your O2's, secondary air, cats, etc for proper operation and to repair/replace as nesassary.
