Default Shifting strange

I did about 100 miles of washboard road this weekend. When I got back on the FWY everything was fine. About 80 miles I stopped for gas and when I got back to the on ramp all the shifts felt like the drive shaft was made of rubber. I arrived home about two hours later and it seems like it shifts ok except from 3rd to 4th and it still feels like a rubber band. 110,000 miles. How long do these transmissions last? I don't know when the last service was done to the fluid/filter change, I have only had it for a couple thousand miles. Thanks

They last quite a while, they would generally not fail at 110,000.

The truck has never towed anything. Could the washboard road have shaken dirt loose and clogged the filter?

The tranny is electronic, and shift points are determined by the tranny computer, which talks to the engine computer, they compare notes about engine load, rpm, etc. The tranny is sealed, except for a small vent line. The engine could have a very dirty air filter, and you may end up needing to clean your MAF, only when stone cold, engine not turned on, with made-for-MAF spray. The engine could be telling tranny it is having load issues (based on fuel system problems) and tranny is responding.

And yes, new fluid and filter would also be good, it don't last forever. The breaking gunk loose is probably not, otherwise everyone in New Jersey would have the same problem, their pothole count forces new shocks at every oil change.

Hey Savannah, I never thought about the air cleaner. I have done two very dusty trips in the last two weekends so it is very likely that the filter is plugged. Thanks again!!!!
