Default Should I buy a Disco or not????

Hello everyone,

would like some sound advice please, my car has been written off due to being rear ended by a day dreaming lady at the lights so I am now car-less. I have always like the Discovery and am seriously considering getting one (budget of £900. My only concern is the mpg and looks (i.e. lights) I work about 8 miles away from home which consists of a few stops n starts. If I can get a smidge over 30mpg then im sold. Also is it possible to upgrade the lights on say a 300 1996-97 to the facelift ones?

Any comments on your viewon these cars would be most appreciated.

p.s. Ive been told to stay clear of the td5 and go for either the 200 or 300. Dont know why ???

Many thanks

Raj

If your only concern is mpg and looks I'd recommend looking elsewhere. I dunno about the UK but here in new jersey if you pay anything under $5000 (£3300ish) you're getting something that's probably not up to par. For mpg I've heard 24-28 is normal for the tdi (dunno how accurate that is) but if I'm right you could possibly push it to 30 with a little work. I don't know much about the tdi engines since they're basically illegal and/or cost $30,000 or so to put in, but I do know that the only way to put facelifted lights in will be if you're damn good with a welder. Good luck

Urban Panzer would be the person to talk to when it comes to diesel rovers. He's also in the UK so can give you an idea what you can expect to pay.

You can swap the headlights from a newer DI to a older one no problem, so if you buy a 1992 200tdi you can swap headlights with a 1997 300tdi/petrol.
Have you ckecked the classified (for sale) section of Land Rover World or Land Rover Owners magazines?
