Haven't put a gauge on it yet...

The oil filter is a Land Rover brand that was new (plus oil) when I bought the truck from a LR dealer 2 months ago.

 

You need the Mobil one 301 filter. It's very large so you get increased flow.

 

Are you serious? The Land Rover filter is restrictive?! That's the first I've heard of that. Maybe that's the answer for so many of the "ticking's" that people have...!

 

Don't think we will be that lucky. The Mobil1 filter is highly rated, and sports a 10 micron filter. This gets really small stuff out of the oil. I happen to have an older truck with 175 K, and I run a WIX 51459, which is even larger and you get another 1/2 quart or more oil capacity. But this WIX (not all WIX) operates at 35 micron.

See attached for RAVE info on the oil system, and explanation of the hydraulic lifters. Sometimes these have to build up pressure and may make that noise until warmed up lightly But that is not the only thing that can make noise....

To unstick lifters, some use a flush of ATF or other solvent, then change oil. Some use a quart of very thin oil, like Marvel Mystery Oil. Some use a solvent, like SeaFoam, which can dissolve some sludge while you drive. But just as much benefit usually happens when you change to a diesel rated oil (like Rotella) and change often. The xtra cleaning chemicals help get rid of the gunk.

 

Probably won't get that lucky with just the filter. But just something to look into in the future. Have you checked the psi numbers yet?

 

...By the way...The ticking noise was a cracked exhaust manilfold! After a few moments, it gets quiet. The heat expands and the crack seals!

 

The "cliffhanger" finally comes to an end. Man, talk about building to a climax...making us wait 7 years...lol.
